Fifth Round of KCB Golf Tour Crosses into Rwanda
The fifth round of the KCB East African Golf Tour dubbed, “KCB Bank Rwanda Open” gets underway between 2nd – 5th June 2010 at Kigali Golf Club, in Rwanda.
A record field of 36 professionals will lock horns for the battle of Kshs. 1 million purse at stake. The overall winner will receive Kshs 192,000, the first runner-up will take home Kshs 145,000 while the second runner up will obtain Ksh 109,000. The prize kitty will be shared among the top 20 finishers.
The event has attracted 22 professionals from Kenya, 3 from Tanzania, 9 from Uganda and 2 from Rwanda. Among the golfers travelling to Kigali are two time winner of the on-going KCB East African Golf Tour Simon Ngige of Thika Sports Club. Ngige hit the best score on the last day of the Tanzania Open, to jointly share the second place with round two and three joint leader Richard Ainley from Nakuru who is also participating in the Kigali event.
Also drawn from Kenya will be Vet Lab’s Ali Kimani, South Africa based Anil Shah, Dismas Indiza, Jacob Okello, Muthaiga’s Nicholas Rokoine and Brian Njoroge among others.
Uganda’s Deo Akope, fresh from his win in Arusha will be featuring in Kigali, alongside B.Toolit and D. Anguyo among others.
In addition, a three man contingent from Tanzania which includes, Rashid Iddi, Stanley Sanga, and Brown Nyenza have been drawn while Baptiste and Ruterana from Rwanda have their confidence bolstered by the fact that they will be playing at home.
“The numbers have reduced for this tournament, but we look forward to having a brilliant challenge,” Tournament Director Elisha Kasuku said.
The KCB East African Golf Tour 2010 is a series of eight tournaments’s staged in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda.
This year, the KCB Group has sponsored the Tour to a tune of Kshs. 12.5 million up from the previous sponsorship of Kshs. 950,000 in 2007 and will see the inclusion of events in Arusha, Kampala and Kigali.
The grand finale of the Tour has been planned to take place in August in Mombasa. The next round of the series will be held at the Nakuru Golf Club in Kenya 16th – 19th June 2010.
